AFTER DUSK - The Devil Got His Soul Review

AFTER DUSK - The Devil Got His Soul
Independent
There is a question that often rises in our heads or in a chat amongst friends, why we don’t listen to songs or even bands that can make us stick with them for a long time. In my opinion the reasons for this are: 1) the overproduction of metal albums in our days which makes it impossible for someone to listen to them all, 2) even when a band manages to achieve something they are pressed by labels and fans to release another album very soon (which is impossible, because the real good ideas need time) and 3) we are living in an era that is cool to copy the glorious 80’s even if that means lack of personality. Is there any hope against these odds? Yes, there is and I believe that AFTER DUSK are on the right path.

If you check out their discography you will realize that they don’t force or rush things. There is a logical time gap between their releases that helps to make good ideas mature and grow inside the artist. The second and most important thing is that AFTER DUSK have built a sound that has character and originality. They actually do things that I appreciate in a band. They draw influences from the 70’s and 80’s metal and hard rock sound and with these tools they craft their songs that somehow sound old school and yet fresh and modern. Besides that they don’t restrain their songs in one style. Of course the foundations of their songs are in the traditional heavy metal, but they blend it with strong hard rock and thrash/speed metal touches. One other thing that makes the band recognizable is the voice of Paminos who sounds like a pissed of Ozzy Osbourne.

This is the third album of the band that was released in 2012 and now is re-released with a more professional mixing that actually adds up to the quality of the album. An album that according to me is their most mature work so far and it is a release that the more you listen to carefully the more you will enjoy it and discover things. I think that AFTER DUSK is one of the most original heavy metal bands out there that mix their old school influences in a very creative way.
