MILTOS MARATHON – Greek Fill review

 MILTOS MARATHON – Greek Fill
Little Room Recording
I’ve known Miltos for a long time and if you are reading my webzine then you will know that I have presented his previous works as well. Miltos is a guitarist whose roots can be found in the 70’s rock sound and the blues; however this didn’t restrain him as an artist. On the contrary he is a guitar player that constantly searches to expand his horizons and mix his rock and blues influences with other elements. “Greek Fill” is his new work and is released by his own label. So let me tell you a few things about it…
THE COVER: It is simple enough and yet has this traditional Greek touch. Actually it has the logo of the band and the title of the album written on a blue fond. On the top of the cover you can see a doily made by hand that our grandmothers and mother used to put upon the tables and televisions when they were not thin.
MUSICAL STYLE: As I mentioned above Miltos is a guitarist who musically moves on the paths of 70’s rock and blues. In this album his plan was to mix his rock/blues sound with strong influences from the Greek folklore music. Actually his vision is to blend rock with Greek folklore. This might sound ambitious and even not possible, but Miltos has the talent and the skill to do so. Actually some hints of his vision can be found on his previous releases. In this album which I have to say is the most mature MARATHON work, the band manages to sound both rock and yet have this strong Greek feeling that is present in the whole album. It is an album that travels you through emotions and feelings and above all it is a journey to Greek sounds with the rock sound as a vehicle. I have to say that “Greek Fill” brought to my mind the great SOCRATES who also combined Greek folklore sounds.
CONCLUSION: This is a beautiful and worked in every detail album that has a strong Greek flavor without betraying its rock roots. I think that Miltos must be proud of this release and it is an album I recommend.
